适应症
主要用于催眠、镇静、抗惊厥（小儿高热惊厥、破伤风惊厥、子癎、癫痫持续状态）和麻醉前给药。
用法用量
深部肌肉（不能用于浅表）或静脉注射。成人常用量：催眠，100～200mg，晚上一次顿服；镇静，一次30～50mg，每日2～3次。极量一次200mg，一日600mg。小儿常用量：催眠，个体差异大；镇静，每次按体重2mg/Kg，或按体重表面积60mg/m2，每日2～3次。
不良反应
1、用于抗癫痫时最常见的不良反应为镇静，但随着疗程的持续，其镇静作用逐渐变得不明显。2、可能引起微妙的情感变化，出现认知和记忆的缺损。3、长期用药，偶见叶酸缺乏和低钙血症。4、罕见巨幼红细胞性贫血和骨软化。5、大剂量时可产生眼球震颤、共济失调和严重的呼吸抑制。6、用本品的患者中约1～3%的人出现皮肤反应，多见者为各种皮疹以及哮喘，严重者可出现剥脱性皮炎和多形红斑（或Stevens—Johnson综合症），中毒性表皮坏死极为罕见。7、有报道用药者出现肝炎和肝功能紊乱。8、长时间使用可发生药物依赖，停药后易发
禁忌
禁用于以下情况：严重肺功能不全、肝硬化、血卟啉病史、贫血、哮喘史、未控制的糖尿病、过敏等。
注意事项
1、对一种巴比妥过敏者，可能对本品过敏；2、作抗癫痫药应用时，可能需10～30天才能达到最大效果，需按体重计算药量，如有可能应定期测定血药浓度，以达最大疗效；3、肝功能不全者，用量应从小量开始；4、不宜长期用药，如连续使用达14天可出现快速耐药性；5、长期用药可产生精神或躯体的药物依赖性，停药需逐渐减量，以免引起撤药症状。6、与其他中枢抑制药合用，对中枢产生协同抑制作用，应注意。7、下列情况慎用：轻微脑功能障碍（MBD）症、低血压、高血压、贫血、甲状腺功能低下、肾上腺功能减退、心肝肾功能损害、高空作业、驾
