适应症
作用性质与吗啡类似，但作用时间长，适用于慢性、中度至重度剧烈疼痛和剧烈咳嗽病人，主要用于癌症病人镇痛。
用法用量
口服。用量约为吗啡剂量的一半，一般起始剂量成人一次5～10mg，对慢性疼痛患者，随着用药时间延长和耐受的形成，应逐渐增加剂量以达有效镇痛效果，或遵医嘱。
不良反应
（1）不良反应主要有性功能减退，男性服用后精液少，且可有乳腺增生。女性与避孕药同用，可终日迷倦乏力，逾量可逐渐进入昏迷，并出现右束支传导阻滞、心动过速或（和）低血压。（2）亦有眩晕、恶心、呕吐、出汗、嗜睡等，也可引起便秘及药物依赖。
禁忌
呼吸功能不全者禁用。
注意事项
（1）本品为国家特殊管理的麻醉药品，务必严格遵守国家对麻醉药品的管理条例，医院和病室的贮药处均须加锁，处方颜色应与其他药处方区别开。各级负责保管人员均应遵守交接班制度，不可稍有疏忽。（2）本品为阿片或吗啡成瘾者可取的戒断用药，戒断症状轻微，但依赖性显著，所以弊多利少，多采用“美沙酮维持法”。
